Motorcycle won't start? Find out easy quick fixes and common mistakes. Plus the one thing you definitely don't want to do!

It's bound to happen sooner or later. You're ready to ride, but your motorcycle won't start. Before you call for help, consider performing a few simple steps on your own. Quite frequently, the cause and the remedy are both very simple.

First, try starting your motorcycle again, but this time pay careful attention to your starting procedure. Are you forgetting that the sidestand has to be up or that the motorcycle must be in neutral to start? Modern motorcycles are equipped with safety lockouts to prevent starting your bike in gear and riding away with the sidestand down. Starting routines become second nature and sometimes even these simple steps are overlooked.

Once you've checked the safety lockouts, determine if you are getting power to your starter. Turn your motorcycle on again and press the starter button. Does the starter turn? If yes, does it turn at its normal speed? A slow cranking starter means that the starter is getting power, just not enough to start your motorcycle. If all you get is a clicking noise, there isn't enough power to activate the starter solenoid. Insure that your battery is fully charged and the cables are clean and tight. No matter how tempted, never jump start a motorcycle with a car! The excessive current can be devastating to a motorcycles's sensitive electronics. For more information please see my article on motorcycle starting systems.

The next check should be fuel supply. Is there gas in the tank? I can't count how many times I've "fixed" a motorcycle by filling the tank. Don't just trust the gauge; check the level visually. For those of you with fuel petcocks make sure they are on. If your fuel petcocks are on reserve don't assume that all of the fuel in the tank is usable. The bottom of the tank is where sediment and water collects. This often doesn't cause a problem until the tank is almost empty.

If your starter turns normally and you have a full tank of gas your motorcycle should start, right? Not necessarily - so if your bike still doesn't start, it might be time to call for a tow. Your motorcycle needs the fuel to enter the cylinders and be ignited by a spark at a precise instance for proper combustion. Components that might still be at fault are clogged carburetors or fuel injectors, an inoperable fuel pump, or ignition system. See "Advanced Diagnostics" to find out more.

Repossessed motorcycle auction have a couple of benefits for both the consumer and the seller. First, through the auction you will be certain that the price at that given time is the highest for that particular motorcycle. So as a seller you're guaranteed, in a way, of the best profit for your sale.

Meanwhile, for the consumers the auction is a great place to acquire cheap motorcycles that are in great shape and if you're really lucky, you will even get a repossessed motorcycle that's close to being brand new. A brand new motorcycle will cost you quite a fortune. That's why the best option for you is get a used bike in a repossessed motorcycle auction.

There are a lot of public auctions out there where you could get your bike at dirt cheap prices. But the best deals are actually found in government seized auctions. A repossessed motorcycle auction features motorcycles, dirt bikes and atv's that were seized by the government from owners involved in unlawful activities. You can find these kinds of auctions happening in all parts of the country.

It is held yearly, monthly or even weekly depending on the place. So you need to keep an eye out for these kinds of auctions if you really want to have a bike that is cheap. Now, the main reason why repossessed motorcycle auction offers cheap motorcycles is that the government agency got the bikes for free and they will really want to get rid of them for whatever price possible since it is quite expensive to store the vehicles and their departments would appreciate the additional cash for their budget.

There are some things that you need to remember when buying from a repossessed motorcycle auction. Just like when buying cars from auction events, you need to inspect carefully the motorcycles that are up for bid.

Come early on the auction date so you have enough time to inspect the items thoroughly. Plus, by going early you avoid the rush of people and will not be pressured or bothered when you conduct your own inspections.

Also, before you go to a repossessed motorcycle auction you need to have at least an idea of the price range of the items that are up for bid. This means you need to be familiar with the kinds of motorcycles and their current market value. Market value includes if the motorcycle is brand new and the retail value if it has been used or reconditioned.

Remember too that you need to set for yourself the highest price you will bid for the bike and once you've decided you better stick with it regardless of how much you liked the motorcycle. If you don't, you will be engaged in a bidding war that will end up with you paying more than what the bike was worth in the first place. Don't get caught with the pace. Go there with your own style and your own pace.

Don't settle for a single repossessed motorcycle auction, there are a lot of auctions out there especially online. So before you go on a scheduled auction, visit a couple of online auctions first to get an idea on how the prices of the motorcycles fare.

You never now, you might find a product that is cheaper especially in an unpopular auction due to the less number of bidders. Preparation is always the key when you opt to buy your motorcycle in a repossessed motorcycle auction event.

Motorcycles were unfit for sports activities when they were first developed. Former machines were adaptations of a cycle that integrated a petrol engine. These motorcycles could attain a maximum speed of 15 miles per hour. This speed was not impressive from a sports point of view. Since then, motorcycle enthusiasts began seeking the development of faster, sleeker, lighter, and more efficient motorcycles. It took designers up to 100 years of trial and error to develop what is now known as a super bike or a sports bike.

A sports bike is a complicated piece of machinery that is known for high speeds and superb handling capabilities, particularly while turning. Many companies sell sports bikes and provide customized sport motorcycles. Sports Motorcycles are usually used for recreational purposes and racing but may be used as a means of daily commuting by some.

Sport Motorcycles are made by incorporating cutting age technology that gives sleek and aerodynamic capabilities to the vehicle. This is combined with high engine power, quick acceleration, and good stability to provide balance and comfort. Sport motorcycles are attractive and are available in a large selection of bright colors. Some popular colors include Passion Red, Ebony, or Candy Thunder Blue that are bound to draw attention from bystanders whether on the highway, or parked on the roadside. These machines accelerate effortlessly and can be handled with ease.

Sport Motorcycles are integrated with state of art technology in order to guide the rider in any given situation. The speedometer and tachometer are easy-to-read in a white-faced dual analogue. There is an indicator for clutch engagement and shift usage. An array of multi-function LCD digital displays keeps the rider informed about the fuel level, dual trip meters, and gears.

Sport Motorcycles are an expensive buy and require adequate attention in order to function flawlessly. It is advisable to take inputs from a knowledgeable rider that would prove fruitful while purchasing a Sport Motorcycle.

German inventors Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach first developed motorcycles in 1885. It was a revolutionary petroleum-powered means of transportation that had provisions for a pair of stabilizing wheels. It came to be known as the riding car. Former models were large, bulky and had poor handling capabilities. Development of motorcycles began to progress after the First World War that saw extensive use of motorcycles, especially by Germans. These models were made with the help of new internal combustion engines that many manufacturers and producers of bicycles adapted in their designs.

Motorcycles were widely used as an economical solution to deal with rising prices of transportation. Prices of motorcycles were high at that time but yielded better returns over a period of time. As new internal combustion engines became additionally powerful and designs outgrew its bicycle origins, the number of motorcycle producers reduced. India was the largest manufacturer of motorcycles until Harley Davidson launched its bikes in the market in 1928.

Motorcycles are moderately complicated machines that make use of a "chassis" to support other parts of the bike, a "fairing" to mask the front end of the handle, "suspensions" to absorb shocks and reduce wear and tear of the motorcycle, wheels, an engine, a transmission, and brakes. These are a few basic elements of a bike, along with some more technical mechanics involved, such as oil tank, chains, odometers, and so on. The engine comes in two variants where one of them is a popular option for most due to its simple usage.

Automatic Motorcycles eliminate the hassle of frequently changing gears during traffic or other stops. Nevertheless, manual transmission is preferred as it is more economical that the automatic transmission models. Auto transmission feature takes a toll on the fuel consumption of the bike. Young people find it easy to use automatic Motorcycles because this operation is less complicated and the performance is comparable for limited use.

While purchasing an Automatic Motorcycle it is advisable to opt for a 4-stroke engine as it provides better fuel economy.

There are currently two types of motorcycle battery available in the market: conventional, and maintenance-free. Both have advantages and disadvantages, and choosing the right kind of battery for your motorcycle and maintenance habits can help you save time and money.

Most modern motorcycles require a motorcycle battery to power its electrical systems. Currently, there are two main types available in the market: the conventional type and the maintenance-free type. Although they are an often overlooked component, knowing the differences between the two types of batteries can help one better understand their specific maintenance needs and cost.

The conventional type of battery consists of flooded electrolyte and cell accessible construction. Although these are less expensive than maintenance-free batteries, they require more attention. Because of the process of electrolysis and evaporation, water loss is normal and therefore, the periodic addition of distilled water is required. If the battery's water level falls below the minimum fill line, permanent damage to the battery can occur as the lead plates become exposed to the air. For this reason, it's important to maintain the water levels above the minimum fill lines.

With a maintenance-free battery, on the other hand, water loss is eliminated since the unit is designed to remain permanently sealed once it is filled with acid. Although slightly more expensive than conventional batteries, it is currently popular among many motorcycle enthusiasts. Because the battery unit is completely sealed, all of the acid is absorbed in the special plates and separators - there is no need to worry about acid leaks, or refilling the battery with distilled water. Even after months of normal use, there would be enough electrolytes to keep the plates covered because of the amount of free-standing electrolytes that are above the plates.

Knowing the difference between the two types of batteries can help a rider make a better decision as to what type of motorcycle battery to use for his bike and maintenance habits. Either way, properly maintaining battery will help ensure its long-term use, and can save money in the long run.

To keep your Kawasaki and Harley Sportster motorcycles running at top performance, one of the most critical things you can do is to conduct a scheduled repair. DIY maintenance undoubtedly cuts down the costs of maintaining your Kawasaki and Harley Sportster. And it's not that difficult as you think; as long as you are willing to get down on your knees and make your hands dirty. With a Kawasaki repair manual, it's as easy as these five steps.

Step 1: Start with the brakes and replace the brake pads. Your repair manual can direct you through this. Provided that you have the correct tools ready, it just takes 45 minutes of your time to get this over with. If the brakes feel a little soft, or are making a noise, then [replacing the brake pads could fix the problem. Make sure you find the correct model numbers of the brake pads for your motorcycle.

Step 2: Check the levels of brake fluid on your motorcycles. If the levels are too low, add more fluid; if they're too high, then you have to drain off some of the fluid since too much brake fluid can spill over from the tanks.

Step 3: Bleed the brakes. Go by the repair manual's directions on how to do so. For Kawasaki owners, you can start by filling a pump oil can with the new brake fluid and attach it to the brake bleeder valve via a hose. To get the fluid moving through the bike, pump the oil gradually. Because it can strip the paint, be careful not to get the fluid on the exterior of the motorcycle. Then gradually pump the brakes till you get the air out.

Step 4: Examine the oil filter. The oil filter is utilized to filter or catch any dirt or debris from coming into the engine. Clean out the dirt and debris and if there is any damage or holes, replace the oil filter immediately.

Step 5: Check the U-joint. The U-joint could be damaged or could lack lubrication if you'd notice a vibration in the bike that start out lightly but gets worse in time. Make use of a little amount of lubrication on the joint, and take the bike out for a small drive. If there's still a vibration, then change the U-joint with a new one.

If you want to save money on maintenance costs, your Kawasaki and Harley Sportster manual will surely guide you what to do. And don't forget to start with these five simple steps to cut down the costs and expensive repairs in the future.

While the invention of the Motorcycle is subject to great debate and contention even today, what is certain is that its evolution is both impressive and fun to look at. From the early steam models and gas powered predecessors, to today's high performance designs, the journey of the Motorcycle's development is a testament to man's ingenuity and skill.

The idea of a two wheeled motorized vehicle appears to have occurred to multiple people at around the same time. Hence, there is a multitude of different designs and forms in the earliest years of the motorcycle. There where several steam powered motorbikes made in the 1860's. The most famous of which is probably from American inventor, Sylvester Howard Roper, whom unfortunately died while demonstrating his creation.

By the 1880's internal combustion engines were all the rage. They were also fitted in the first Motorcycles that available for sale to the general public. And as the technology improved the engines got bigger and more powerful. This led to motorcycle design outgrowing their bicycle origins.

The early 1900's up to the half of the point century saw great improvements on Motorcycle design and safety. This is the time that their use on the streets grew and also when the military started using them. They were also first seen in races at that time. It was mostly Europeans and Americans that manufacture Motorcycles with the British dominating most of the market.

It was not until the late 1940's that the Japanese started making Motorcycles. Honda came out with great improvements on the design and quality of the motorcycle. The company soon dominated the industry with their high quality and inexpensive motorcycles. This caused several American and European Motorcycle companies to struggle and even go bankrupt.

The best selling Motorcycle in all of history is the Honda Super Cab. It is not the prettiest nor is it the fastest of Motorcycles but it sure made the Motorcycle as widespread and famous as it is today. First made in 1958, it is still manufactured by Honda to this day. Its simple and timeless design coupled with its high durability is what helps to keep it relevant more than fifty years after it first came out.

Putting a helicopter engine on two wheels sounds like a scene from a Wile Coyote cartoon. It is hard to imagine anyone seriously attempting it in the real world. And yet the evolution of the Motorcycle went down that path with the invention of the Y2K Turbine Superbike. It is officially the most powerful production Motorcycle in the world. It is powered by a Rolls-Royce-Allison Model 250 engine. It has a mind boggling, recorded top speed of 370 km per hour, that is faster than most bullet trains around the world.

Today Motorcycles are manufactured by companies from all over the world. The market is still largely dominated by the Japanese. Constant competition among the manufacturers have led to unthinkable innovations on the motorcycle's design. Today's Motorcycles are safer and perform better than ever before, It is very exciting to think of what the future Motorcycles might be like.

For both men and women, it seems that riding a motorcycle gives them a definite sense of individuality and freedom. The open road is available for anyone and everyone to ride into the sunset. During the past 20 years, the number of females that have purchased a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle, has been steadily increasing. In 1990 the percentage was around 4 to 5 percent and today it is 12 percent. Women today are very determined and their attitude is that they can do it all. We live in a society which offers them the opportunity to become a "motorcycle mama" if they choose to! With the rising price of gas, riding a motorcycle has also become an efficient way to save money.

Ladies Motorcycle accessories are not only fashionable, but also offer protection and security to the rider. If you don't choose the appropriate riding accessories, than you could actually be causing undue stress on your body.

Ladies Motorcycle Gloves

Motorcycle gloves are necessary to keep a rider's hands warm in wind and low temperatures and to provide a better grip while driving. In addition to providing a degree of protection from weather conditions, motorcycle gloves can be designed to offer greater protection in case of accidents. There are different types of leather gloves including street biking gloves, racing gloves, women's cruiser leather motorcycle gloves and women's motorcycle gloves.
If your hands tend to perspire heavily, it is best to choose a quality waterproof type glove which is designed to absorb moisture from your hands to keep them dry.

Wearing a good quality ladies motorcycle glove is very important to protect your hands and provide for a better riding experience. They come in so many colors and designs that it won't be difficult to find an attractive style.

Ladies Motorcycle Jackets

Finding the perfect Motorcycle Jacket shouldn't be a difficult process. Today, women have so many trendy and stylish designs to choose from. A jacket should be comfortable and provide you with adequate protection from the elements. The majority of women's leather motorcycle jackets are made from cattle or buffalo skin and are usually available in brown, black and dark grey colors. However, if you are looking for something a little more bold, these type of jackets can be found in many colors some of which include pink, blue and animal print styles.

When choosing a jacket you should make sure that it fits properly and doesn't ride up. Choosing a belted leather jacket is a good option if you encounter this problem. There are also some jackets that have elastic built in at the bottom which keeps them in place while riding.

Ladies Motorcycle Boots

Motorcycle Boots should be comfortable, and finding the proper fit is very important. When riding a motorcycle, your feet must be adequately protected, and it is crucial to choose a boot that fits your riding needs. Because you are exposed to the elements, and may encounter twigs, rocks, debris and other items in the roadway, your feet need to be adequately protected while riding. The basic styles available are the following:

3/4 Length Boots or Short Biker Boots - This style of boot does not provide as much protection, as they are generally only 6 to 7 inches in height and reach to about ankle height. This style is popular among hobbyist motorcyclists, due to the fact that they provide for more mobility and feel more like a sneaker.

Full Length Boots or Tall Biker Boots - This is a favorite boot for bikers because it offers the most protection. This style of boot is usually available in 7 to 10 inches in height and usually includes a variety of different options. This type of boot is usually preferred by the biker who rides on a daily basis and needs the added protection. But they are also perfect for the weekend biker!

A J Stevens & Co (AJS), was founded by Harry, George, Jack and Joe Stevens on 14th November 1909.

Harry set about designing the first two machines called model A and Model B, which saw the company through until the war.

1912 saw the launch of the model D. However, due to the War, petrol was scarce, so the company decided to try testing town gas instead. They managed to set up a feed, and the speed was varied by turning the gas on or off.

On 3rd November 1916, the government prohibited the production of motorcycles except for military use, and AJS were forced to stop production of its products.

In 1920, the company decided to enter the TT again and attempt to repeat the success they had at the 1914 Junior TT. A new engine had been developed and it proved an ideal solution as Cyril Williams, the rider came first. The company also had successes at different trials and races.

The following year, they produced a prototype three wheeled car, but it never went into production and they also reintroduced the model B, listed as a touring machine and incorporating new features.

The B1 and B2 were introduced in 1922 and were based on the B model. B1 was a standard motorcycle, and the B2 was a sporting model.

Early in 1921, a prototype three wheel car was produced with two wheels at the front and one at the rear, but it never went into production. The model 'B' was also reintroduced in March, using a 2.75hp side valve engine, 3 speed gearbox, chain drive, Amac carburettor, Lucas Magneto and sold for £95. It was listed as a touring machine and incorporated many new features.

The company introduced new models each year, which included sidecars such as the Model E1, and by 1927 had introduced the H Models. However, at the end of August 1931, a loss of £89,201 was announced and the shares fell in price. The company had taken out a loan to finance the commercial vehicle and car business. The bank decided to foreclose and although the company managed to repay the outstanding amount, it was left with only a small amount of working capital.

A shareholders meeting was called in October 1931, and a resolution was passed for the company to go into voluntary liquidation.

Matchless Motorcycles Ltd purchased the AJS name and manufacturing rights for £20,000.
