History of Vincent HRD

Phillip Vincent was a determined man who had firm ideas on how a motorcycle should perform, and more importantly, how a motorcycle should be built.

He had studied mechanical science at Cambridge University and had a poor opinion of many features of the contemporary machines.

In the 1920s, he built his first motorcycle. Like all others, it had rear suspension with a triangulated pivoted fork and the springs were mounted beneath the saddle to work against the upper frame. It had a Swiss Mag engine, a Moss gearbox, Webb forks and Enf ..... Continue Reading. Click HERE .......

The History of Velocette Motorcycles

The Veloce company was formed by a family of motorcyclists, which showed through the design and quality of the manufacturing of the machines called Velocette.

That family was the Goodman's, and three generations controlled the Hall Green firm over the years.

Between the years 1913 to 1925, Velocette produced high quality, but expensive 250cc 2-strokes, which gained an excellent reputation, that were entered into competitions such as the Isle of Man TT races. The single cylinder manchines had many advanced features for their time, ..... Continue Reading. Click HERE .......

The History of Matchless Motorcycles

For a while, Matchless were the largest motorcycle maker and from the turn of the century, the Collier Brothers were involved in powered two wheelers. The company's premises were in Plumstead, South East London, and were well removed from the Midlands centre of the industry, but this seemed to have little effect on their prosperity.

In the 1920s, they also built cars. At the start of the 1930s, the company had a range of singl ..... Continue Reading. Click HERE .......

Harley Davidson and the Hells Angels – A Tangled History

Harley-Davidson and the Hells Angels. Few pairings are as synonymous as
those two names. The pairing of Harley Davidson and the Hells Angels is
something akin to peanut butter and jelly, but sometimes it turns into
oil and water. In other words, sometimes the two don't mix. Since the
formation of Hells Angels, Harley Davidson has been their motorcycle of
choice, which hasn't always thrilled the company. They faced
a negative reaction from the buying public, who connected the company
to the biker gang...... Continue Reading. Click HERE .......

Motorcycles Through the Ages – A Brief History

Michaelangelo

The first thought of a motorcycle started out as a bicycle, and it came from Michelangelo in the fourteenth century. The great thing about Michelangelo is that he is a great artist. That was it. No handle bars or steering column, but that was all that was needed to get the minds of other inventors churning, ..... Continue Reading. Click HERE .......
